Winter Tennis

(December 2, 2024 - February 28, 2025) 

This energetic indoor tennis program is for kids (ages 4-9) at the Chevy Chase Community Center. Using mini nets and foam balls, we focus on footwork, form and control. This is perfect for younger players who can learn tennis (or improve their skills), get some exercise and prepare to go outside in the spring!

Summer Tennis Camp

(June 23-August 22, 2025)

Our Summer tennis program offers morning and afternoon half-day camps for all levels and ages (4-17 year olds). We’ll teach your child tennis basics (or help improve their skills) while having fun and getting lots of exercise! To beat the heat, we take lots of water breaks and have misting spray bottles and hoses for cooling down in between tennis games and drills.

Fall Tennis

(September - early November, 2025)

Our Fall season offers one-hour classes (3:30, 4:30, 5:30 pm) for boys and girls (ages 4-16) for beginners, advanced beginners and intermediate players.  Our 8-10 week season will start the first week of September and end in November (the 5:30 class will end Friday, October 25, the 4:30 class will end Friday, Nov.  1 and the 3:30 class will end Friday , Nov. 8 due to daylight savings.)

Registration will be posted in July, 2025.

Spring Tennis

(March 10- June 13, 2025)

Our Spring afterschool tennis program offers one-hour classes (3:30, 4:30, 5:30 pm) for boys and girls (ages 5-16) for beginner, advanced beginner and intermediate players. We’ll teach your child how to play basic tennis (or help improve their skills) while having fun and getting lots of exercise!

Our Spring afterschool tennis program offers one-hour classes for boys and girls (ages 4-14) for beginner, advanced beginner and intermediate players. Our tennis instructors will focus on teaching tennis techniques and strategies, building strength and endurance, improving agility, and enhancing players’ coordination and speed. And we'll make sure our players are having fun and getting lots of exercise!

-Where: Chevy Chase Community Center (5601 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Washington, DC)

Dates: 14-week season (Monday, March 10 - Friday, June 13)

-When: Monday-Friday (3:30, 4:30 and 5:30 one-hour classes).

-Price: $37.50/class or $525 for 14-week season (your registration will be automatically pro-rated if you register after our season starts). For Monday registrants, the fee is $487.50 (not charged for Memorial Day).

-Determining your child's level: If you have questions about your child's level, on the first day of class, Coach Erin will evaluate your child's level and place them in the appropriate class for the day you signed up. If you have questions before then, contact Coach Erin at erosebar@gmail.com.

-School days off: We will still have classes every day regardless of school days off except Federal Holidays.

-Make-ups: We will offer make-up classes the week of June 16 (except Thursday, June 19th/Juneteenth holiday).

-Tennis gear: If you need to buy a racquet, we have a relationship with Tennis Zone (4839 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, WDC) where you can get 10% off (mention LTA) and they can help you pick a racquet that's appropriate for your kid's size.

2025 Summer Youth Tennis Camp

Overview: Our summer tennis program offers morning and afternoon half-day camps for beginner, advanced beginner and intermediate players. We’ll teach your child tennis basics (or help improve their skills) while having fun and getting lots of exercise! To beat the heat, we take lots of water breaks and have misting spray bottles and hoses for cooling down in between tennis games and drills.  

As soon as our campers arrive, they will be greeted by our coaches with enthusiasm and positive energy and ready to take on the day. Campers will be evaluated and divided into different groups based on previous tennis experience and age, assuring that each performance level receives the most appropriate and effective coaching. Our tennis instructors will focus on teaching tennis techniques and strategies, building strength and endurance, improving agility, and enhancing players’ coordination and speed. For older players, we'll also work on improving their mental toughness. (Our coaches will use various teaching techniques, such as one-on-one feedback and special drills.) For the the afternoon session, we often set up matches and focus on game play (for suitable players). We encourage our campers to sign up for multiple weeks to increase their opportunities to improve their tennis skills. 

-WhenMonday, June 23 - Friday, August 22.

-What: Half-day camps (Morning camp: 8:30 am-noon & Afternoon camp: 1:00 pm-4:30 pm). Full day option available too.

-Pre-camp care: We offer pre-camp care only (8:00-8:30 am). 

-Who: Boys and girls (4-17); all skill levels

-Where: Lafayette-Pointer Park tennis courts 

-Price: $335/week. We offer a 10% discount if you sign your child up for the entire day: Register your child for the morning and afternoon class (separately) and then use the code ALLDAY2025 at checkout. We are also offering an early bird discount of 10% which ends March 31, 2025.

-Drop-ins: Drop-in days are available for $67.

-Determining your child's level: If you have questions about your child's level, on the first day of class, Coach Erin Rosebar will evaluate your child's level and group them with similar players in terms of age and skill level. If you have questions before then, contact Erin or Elizabeth.

-About Coach Erin (LTA Tennis Director): Erin is a lifelong multigenerational Washingtonian who has been playing tennis since she was 5, and teaching tennis since she was 12 years old at Rock Creek (Carter Baron) as she grew up in the Crestwood neighborhood. Born in 1976 to a family of tennis players, she developed a deep love and commitment to the game. Erin is also a mom of 4 of which all are or have been students of Lafayette Elementary. Erin began working with LTA in 2016 and received her USPTA certification in 2020.

2024/25 Winter Youth Tennis: Register here.

Our winter indoor tennis program consists of weekly one-hour tennis classes where our young players will hit foam balls over mini-nets. Held at the Chevy Chase Community Center, our classes are tailored to boys and girls (ages 4-11). We teach tennis as a fun activity by using games and drills to improve your child’s hitting skills, strength, balance and speed. 

-Where: Chevy Chase Community Center (5601 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Washington, DC)

-Dates: We are offering a 9-week season (starting Monday, December 2 - Friday, Feb. 28). You can register your child on any date (your fee will be pro-rated).

-When: Monday-Friday (one-hour weekly classes at 3:30, 4:30 and 5:30 pm—please see registration link for specific times). Please see below for our list of classes which are organized by age and skill level.

-Price: $35/class or $315 for 9-week season. For Monday registrants, it's $245 for a 7-week season (as we're not charging for MLK and President Day holidays). You can pro-rate your registration for when you'd like your child to start classes (i.e. December vs January.)

-School days off: We will still have classes every day regardless of school days off (except for Federal holidays: Monday, January 20/MLK Day and Monday, February 17/President’s Day).  

-Make-ups: You can bring your child to any class, any week throughout the entire 9-week season.

-Transport: We are unfortunately unable to provide transportation from Lafayette Elementary to Chevy Chase Community Center given our small staff.  

-If paying by check: Please mail to LTA (Attention: Elizabeth Clofine) at 6706 Melody Lane, Bethesda, MD 20817 (payable to Lafayette Tennis Association).  Please note: we need to have your check within two weeks of registering or we cannot guarantee your child's registration.

2024 Fall Youth Tennis: It’s a wrap!

Our Fall afterschool tennis program offered one-hour classes for boys and girls (ages 5-16) for beginner, advanced beginner and intermediate players.  Here are more details about our Fall programs:

-Where: Lafayette-Pointer Park tennis courts at Lafayette Elementary School in Northwest, Washington, DC.

-When: Monday-Friday (3:30, 4:30 and 5:30 one-hour classes). Please see below for specific times and ages for each class (i.e. "6-9" means it's a class for 6-9 year olds). If you don't see the right fit for your schedule or your child's age/level, contact Elizabeth Clofine (lafayettetennisinfo@gmail.com) and we can adjust the schedule.

-Dates: The Fall season will start the week of September 16 (but we will not have classes on Monday, Oct. 14/Indigenous People's Day and Monday, November 11/Veteran's Day). 

The length of the season will range from 8 -10 weeks depending on your class time (3:30, 4:30 or 5:30 pm) due to sunset times and day light savings: 

-For 3:30 classes, the season will end the week of November 4 (sun sets at 5 pm)

-For 4:30 classes, the season will end the week of October 28 ( (sun sets 6:06 pm)

-For 5:30 classes, the season will end the week of October 21 (sun sets at 6:15 pm but “civil sunset” or dusk is until 6:41 pm)

-Price: $35/class or $350 for 10-week season, $315 for 9-week season, $280 for 8-week season, etc. (If you sign up for the Monday classes, you will not be charged for Monday, October 13/Indigenous People's Day).

-Determining your child's level: If you have questions about your child's level, one the first day of class, Coach Erin Rosebar will evaluate your child's level and place them in the appropriate class for the day you signed up. If you have questions before then, contact Elizabeth or Erin.

-Coming to the courts & CLS: If your child is walking up to the tennis courts by themselves, please make sure that their teacher knows that they are self-dismissing to go the tennis courts up the hill. If they are also in an afterschool program (CLS or CCPC) you need to let the program coordinator know that they will be participating in the Lafayette Tennis program. If you need LTA to retrieve your child from CLS and bring them to the courts, please email us (kate_emanuel@yahoo.com). Please note: Our coaches can retrieve your child from CLS but we cannot return them to CLS (that is CLS’ rule, not ours)

-School days off: We will still have classes every day regardless of school days off (except for Federal holidays: Monday, Sept 2/Labor Day, Monday, Oct. 14/Indigenous People's Day and Monday, November 11/Veteran's Day.  

-Make-ups: Make-up week (for weather cancellations) will be held the week of November 11 at 3:30 pm each day for all ages and classes. (We will not have a make up day on Monday, November 11/Veteran's Day.) The reason we're only offering the 3:30 time slot is it will get will be getting dark earlier (due to shorter days plus daylight savings). We also encourage our students to do make up classes throughout the entire season (any day, any time slot). 

-If paying by check: Please contact Elizabeth for details on where to drop off/mail the check.
